The Mississippi River is Rising

Hi Everybody... Robin here.

The Mississippi River is expected to crest on Tuesday, May 10, 2011... at 48 Feet. (The 1937 flood was 48'7".) Here is another "before" picture which Pat took when he was photographing the Tom Lee Memorial.

Here is the "current" picture; taken by Dan Price and Facebook posted by John Underwood and Frank Inderbitzen. And, we're not done, yet.  Good thing they did decide to move the BBQ contest to higher ground.

Hope everyone is having a Happy Mother's Day. Today I will treat myself to some stitching time and finish Hooty.  Here's a preview. He is one cute bird.

  1. Hi, Robin - So glad to hear you are all "high and dry". I feel terrible to think that there are so many folks along the Mississippi that are suffering. The South has really been hit hard this spring! Too much to bear!

On a happier note, I love Hooty and can't wait for the Creepy Characters to make it to the shops. You've done a wonderful job with them!

    Stay dry!

  2. Hooty is quite a personality! I think he's my favorite of all the Creepy Set.

I'm thinking of all the Memphis folks impacted by the flood. Hope the water doesn't get as bad as predicted. Stay safe at the Golden Strand!

  3. Hi Melinda and Jane. Good to hear from you. I have had the best time stitching Hooty. The Fuzzy Stuff and Petite Very Velvet made the best combination for a soft bird. And, tonight, I just figured out how to interpret and stitch his feet. Woo hoo!

  4. He's my favorite too although I have a thing for the crazy-looking cat as it reminds me of my Husky (she does have that look). Hope you all there stay safe and dry. It has been a harsh spring this year, especially in the South. It seems Mother Nature has reached menopause (her way of expressing mood swings)

  5. Robin

Hope you all stay safe and most of all dry! Your Creepy Characters are so cute. The stitches and fibers are the best.

    Way to cool

  6. Hi Palma. Good to hear from you. I agree, my first passion was with Fraidy Cat. But each Creepy Character has won my heart. I am currently loving Hooty Owl. I agree with your Mother Nature comment. LOL. Thanks, Robin

  7. Oh Robin, I have been thinking of all of you there in Memphis and along the mighty Mississippi river. We have had our tornados here in Alabama but you are having the flooding there and both are disasters that we hope to never see again in our lifetime. I hope all of you are safe and sound.

    p.s. Love Hooty!

  8. Hi Sue. Good to hear from you, as always. These guys are fun. Once the finishing touches to Hooty are done, then I am on to the Ghost. Boo!

  9. Hi Carol. Good to hear from you. Luckily, I am about 18 miles from downtown/Mississippi River, and even more luckier, I am not near any of the tributaries which go through Memphis/Shelby Co. The flooding is heart-breaking. Nashville got it last year. The Mississippi River is having its turn this year. When the crest of the river travels further south, it will be an even bigger mess as it goes towards Louisiana. Hugs to all in its way. It's sad when one disaster replaces one's attention from the previous disaster. I know Alabama and Georgia will be healing for generations. Hugs to you.
